Description
Original vintage concert program produced for American jazz clarinetist and big band leader Woody Herman’s February 1968 nationwide tour of Great Britain, presented by Harold Davison. By 1968, the Herman library came to be heavily influenced by rock music. The album
Light My Fire
was a good example. Recorded at Ter Mar Studios in Chicago and produced by Richard Evans, the album was nominated for a Best Jazz Performance — Large Group. Herman also began to feature brass and woodwind instruments not traditionally associated with jazz, such as the bassoon, oboe or French horn. The program has been authentically signed on the title page by trombonist Slide Hampton, drummer John van Ohlen, tenor saxophonist Joe Alexander, and trombonist Mel Wanzo. Original ticket for the concert at the Town Hall in Birmingham on 5th February, 1968, laid in.
In original pink and black pictorial uncoated wrappers, staple bound, 20.8 x 25.6 cm, 20 pp. Program notes by Peter Clayton. Wrappers are slightly rubbed with light wear to spine and extremities, else in near excellent condition, tightly bound and clean.
