This is a promotional item created by the Chinese Olympic organizers supporting their unsuccessful bid for the 2000 Summer Olympic Games.  The set includes two plastic targets approximately 8-1/2" in diameter with a panda bear and the slogan "A more open

awaits Olympics" in both English and Chinese.  They attach to your hand with a strap on the rear.  Also included are eight shuttlecocks with suction cups to stick to the targets (Not as easy as you might think).  This set was obtained while visiting
China
in the early 1990s while the selection process for the 2000 Summer Olympics was underway.  It has been stored in our smoke-free home since then.
This set was NOT new when we received it but it is in excellent condition.  There are some light scratches on the plastic hand targets and the finish is not uniform, but I am not sure if this is the result of use or a reflection of the quality of manufacture at the time.  The colors are clear and bright and all Chinese characters are distinct and legible.  There are no chips, cracks or flaws in any of the pieces.
This is a great conversation piece to display in advance of the upcoming summer Olympic games in Tokyo in 2020.  These promotional ideas for UNSUCCESSFUL Olympic bids are virtually impossible to find since they are only produced for a very short time in extremely limited quantities during the site selection process.  If you are a collector of Olympic promotional material and souvenirs, here is an exceptional opportunity to acquire an EXCEEDINGLY RARE example of a unique idea to represent the heritage of the potential host country.  You may never get another chance to own one of these truly novel Olympic promotions.  Don't let this one get away!
