Winter Olympic Games 1968 Official Participation Medal in its original case. I would judge this example to be in extremely fine (EF) condition or better, but please take a good look at my photos and form your own opinion of its grade. The case is in very good condition too.
Made from Bronze, Diameter 68 mm, Thickness 7 mm, Weight 157.5 grams, Mintage ??, Designer J. M. Coeffin.
This is one of the larger and heavier of a long and highly collectable line of Olympic Participation Medals, awarded to athletes, judges and other officials at virtually all the modern Olympic and Winter Olympic Games, beginning in Athens in 1896.
The obverse has a profile of a Greek athlete wearing a headband against a background of falling snowflakes. The reverse displays a cityscape and view of
Mount
Belladone
surrounded by the legend Xes JEUX OLYMPIQUES D'HIVER. The word
GRENOBLE
along with the Olympic emblem appear above the centre
.
