Description
This beautifully and heavily made brass Kendi (drinking or water vessel) was made in the Dutch Indies c. 1850. It might be from Java or Sumatra. It is truly elegant in its simple form with simple concentric lines turned into its body and an elegant "S" shaped spout. the mouth of the vessel is inscribed in a native alphabet and language. The piece shows many decades of use and has a great old patina. My best guess is that it dates from the mid 19th c. Other than an small old chip on the tip of the spout and a light bump to the body of the piece (see photos) it has no notable damage other than the wear commensurate with the age of this piece. It is 6.5" tall and is 6" in diameter not counting the spout. I weighs just over three pounds.Washington State buyers please add 10.1% Washington State Sales Tax.
