Description
This is a stunning RARE FIND!! It is a Hand Carved wood, Red Lacquer Foo Dog/Dragon Wedding Box, early 20thC, from China. Some call it a Wish Box. It is BIG and GORGEOUS!!! The dragon/foo dog lock at the top has two conjoined dragons/dogs in red and gold. Best estimation on age puts it at the end of the 19-th century or in the very beginning of the 20-th century (1890-1910).This wood, Asian 'wish box' or 'wedding box' measures 12 inches tall and 12 inches wide at the top. The base is footed and is 6.5 inches wide. It is made of a beautiful black/brown/red lacquered wood with gold scroll trim.
There are two metal bands around the bottom portion. The inside is made of gorgeous wood and in great condition. It has some parts where the wood finish is rough but being over 100 years old, it is in fabulous shape. Very great vintage condition, commensurate with the item age. The lid fits firmly, the locking mechanism in the handle is in perfect order!
It also has a wax seal stamp on the bottom that says A11 Customs Permission. They are quite expensive online. This one has the receipt inside and the owner paid 0 in the year 2000.
This highly decorative collectible item would add a distinctive accent to any interior. It is also a great present idea to anyone, who shares interest in Chinese and Oriental art and culture.
