Souvenir Program from the Hollywood Bowl 1943. Frank Sinatra was the featured performer on Saturday, August 14, 1943.
See scans for overall condition of program and contents. As you will see, it is in pretty good shape considering it is over 75 years old! The front cover is clean and so is the back (which is rare to see when it comes to the back cover of any program or magazine this old!). The program measures 8 1/2" x 11". Inside of program contains no writing or defects that I could find. I am also including a folded 9 1/2" x 12" schedule for August 1943 at the Hollywood Bowl. Sinatra knocked the socks off of the sophisticated audience and this became a landmark appearance in the early part of Frank Sinatra's solo career.

AUGUST 14, 1943:
Ending weeks of public controversy over whether or not to showcase Frank in a venue previously reserved exclusively for highbrow music, the directors of the all-but-bankrupt Hollywood Bowl reluctantly agreed to book him. He played to a packed house of 10,000, wiping out the Bowl's debt in a single stroke. The first half of the program, featuring such lighter classical numbers as Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain" and Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" were conducted by Constantin Bakaleinikoff. Then my father, billed only as a "baritone soloist," walked on stage in a white dinner jacket to begin his own program with "Dancing in the Dark," followed by "Night and Day," "You'll Never Know" and "The Song Is You." Before singing Jerome Kern's 0l' Man River," he told the audience, "I'm not going to sing it like Paul Robeson-I'm not in his class. Yet." He concluded with "All or Nothing at All" and left to a standing ovation. He was awed and humbled by the reaction of the fans. Frank Sinatra had conquered a new arena.
