This is a very scarce, original 1936 book loaded with original photos of the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics (Book II). This was printed in Berlin, Germany, published by Cigaretten-Bilderdienst Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, and the text is in German. This book is quite scarce and THIS IS ONE OF THE NICEST CONDITION COPIES YOU WILL FIND ANYWHERE. VERY RARE IN THIS EXCELLENT CONDITION, INCLUDING BINDING, COVERS, AND PAGES. Clean and virtually no wear. Gold on the bell on the cover is unblemished. I don't believe you will find another copy this nice anywhere.
This book contains 168 pages, absolutely loaded with ORIGINAL GLOSSY PHOTOS from the Olympics attached to each page, with explanations. There are a number of them of JESSE OWENS, one of the earliest and most famous and successful African American Olympic participant. Hitler had planned the Berlin Olympics as a demonstration and showcase of Aaryan German superiority. Imagine his embarassment and furor when not only an American, but an African American, out-performed and stole the national stage from his German athletes.
This book brings you back to that momentus time, and documents how it happened and allows you to relive the historical events. The contemporary photos from 1936 are extremely valuable, especially the ones with Hitler and his henchmen and the ones with Jesse Owens. Has candid photos of all the athletes and all the events. Also pictures of Berlin and opening exercises. PHOTOS ARE LARGE, UP TO about 5" x 7". Must contain about 200+ photos, mostly candid, including at least 7 or 8 with Jesse Owens pictured. (IN A 1936 BOOK PUT OUT IN GERMANY!!!). Also, about a dozen full page color paintings illustrating different scenes, including A ZEPPELIN FLYING ABOVE THE STADIUM AND OPENING EXERCISES, ETC.
Large format book, measuring about 12 1/2" x almost 10". Book is hard-cover and contains 168 pages. Also a nice large chart at the end summarizing all the events and the winners. EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE 1936 OLYMPICS, COMPLETE WITH PHOTOS!!
In excellent condition. YOU WILL SIMPLY NOT FIND A COPY IN BETTER CONDITION THAN THIS ONE.
