Description
In 1984, the Southern California Rapid Transit District issued transit tokens to honor the Olympic games being held in Los Angeles. This unopened set contains the 24 tokens issued - 23 Olympic sport designs & a 24th token representing the Olympic spirit. The front of each token depicts & names an Olympic sport. The back of the tokens have the 1984 Olympic logo (a moving star) & ‘SCRTD token’ indicating it to be a valid token to ride the transit system at that time. The top of the case has four examples of the sports designs (Gymnastics, Track & Field, Boxing & Cycling) & a depiction of the back of the tokens. They are 32mm across (a tad bigger than a half dollar), have a reeded edge, are made of brass?? & are seated in individual circular coin insets in a coin platform inside the case. The case itself is black vinyl -11' side to side, 7 1/4" top to bottom - with a hinged padded top. On the case top - imprinted in gold color - are the 5 token illustrations mentioned earlier & ‘Games of the XXIIIrd (23rd) Olympiad Los Angeles 1984'. The case is wrapped in cellophane & enclosed in a white cardboard sleeve (which is kind of scuffed & dirtyish in spots). The case itself is in very good/excellent condition & the tokens inside it are obviously untouched & uncirculated.
