Kran mask in raffia. Old piece over 50 years old. Supplied on a base.
The Krahns (or Kran) form an African ethnic group present in Liberia - especially in the interior -, and to a lesser extent in Côte d'Ivoire.
The Kran are part of a Dan sub-ethnic group. Even if there are a multitude of Dan masks, the Kran masks really depart from the aesthetic standards of the ethnic group: we are very far from the idealized woman or child face which are normally the basis of all the masks in the region.
