Lot of 6 weights to weigh gold powder - Ivory Coast
Product Description
ENGLISH SPEAKING
Dimensions from 1.4 to 1.9 cms in length.
Total weight of approximately 46 grams without packaging.
Materials: Bronze.
Presumed age: 17th century or earlier.
Lot of 6 bronze weights, which were used to weigh and manipulate gold powder, within the Akan ethnic group.
The weights are all similar in shape, but the patinas differ.
The one in the top left was photographed the wrong way round.
The one at the bottom right has an addition of lead on the upper side, in order to allow it to obtain the exact weight desired.
All weights are old and first generation.
