    Product Description
Baoulé divination box from Ivory Coast. Traditional and old object, more than 40 years old.
This type of box is also called "mouse oracle". This wooden or terracotta object was intended for divination, and accompanied diviners on their travels.
Technically, it is a pot whose interior is divided horizontally by a floor pierced with an orifice.
The diviner placed one or more fasting mice in the lower chamber, and during a consultation, he arranged in the upper part of the sticks, porcupine thorns, turtle scales, and a little food, in an order carefully studied.
Once the jar was closed, the diviner would recite incantations. The hungry mouse would immediately climb up to the top to eat the food.
It involuntarily modified the arrangement of the objects which the diviner then undertook to decipher and interpret.
