    Description

BROOCH, ROBE PIN. Meiji Japan, c. 1896-1912. Brass cinquefoil pin body, possibly originally gilt; painted miniature portrait, five geisha with fan.
From a notable Dallas collection, a lovely gem-like lady's brooch in a warm traditional-form, cast gilt brass five-lobe bezel body, set with a very nicely preserved five-lobe porcelain miniature of five geisha, one with gilt fan. Fine detail, individuality of subjects. Attractive fired gilt dress ornamentation, border frame and beaded outline.
Popularly springing from ladies' traditional porcelain buttons, this type of pin exemplifies the artisanship during the Meiji period of Japan, 1868-1912.
Stamped on the pin body: the Shimazu clan mark on the brass back. Simple, sturdy hook/pin closure.
1.25" diameter, great detail. Overall good condition, nice surfaces, rich warm patina on the metal. No condition issues, no crazing, normal microbrasions in gilt. Truly a great survivor of a transitional artisanship battling mass production. We're proud to offer it.
This ships carefully from Dallas, preferably domestically but please inquire PRIOR to purchase about international packaging & shipment. Please be a good EBay citizen and fulfill PayPal upon purchase.  Questions welcomed!
