ANTIQUE AUSTRIAN ENAMEL STERLING SILVER CUT CRYSTAL POWDER JAR

Description

A beautiful antique sterling silver and guilloche enamel powder jar with a cut crystal base, Austria, circa 1900sm marked "Sterling Austria Royal" and silversmith's name. The lid is decorated by a high quality hand painted miniature of a pastoral scene. The diameter of the miniature on the lid is 2 11/16" or 6.7 cm. It is surrounded by guilded ornamental boarder and fields of pink guilloche enamel. The similar pink enamel is present on the sides of the lid. Superb quality craftsmanship! The underside of the lid is guilded, the guilding is well preserved.  There is sterling silver rim over the cut crystal base, which is in excellent condition and has no defects. The lid fits the base tightly. No evidence of restoration. There is an area of enamel damage on the side of the lid measuring approximately 1" x 1/2". It does not affect the miniature and can and should be restored. Overall dimensions: diameter 4" or 10.5 cm, height with base 2 1/2" or 6.5 cm. Overall weight 1lb and 3.5 oz or 551 grams, weight of the lid 116 grams or 4.1 oz. A must for a serious collector, a rare find in our days, fresh to the market.
