Description
You simply can't find a nicer example of this torch. This time capsule piece should be sitting in a museum. Fresh off the showroom floor comes this torch from an Olympics best remembered for Carl Lewis' four Gold Medals to match Jesse Owens, and Mary Lou Retton's flawless vault in women's gymnastics. Dead Mint specimen in its original leather case, operation instructions and cardboard shipping box (the box and paperwork have wear from storage). Also included is the original wick, in a tin can. Highly collectible in any condition, this unimprovable representation should really strike a chord with serious Olympic collectors. The torch is constructed of spun aluminum, with an antique brass finish. The torch is inscribed with the Olympic motto, "Citius, Altius, Fortius."
The torch run for the 1984 summer olympics lasted 82 days and traveled through 33 states, plus the District of Columbia. This official torch is number 4431.
I carried and ran with this torch in 1984 in Los Angeles as it made its way to the Colosseum.
