Description
For sale is a very unique, and historically significant 1972 autographed program. This Jan. 29th, 1972 banquet event was the 100% Wrong Club's 37th Annual All Sports Jamboree, in Atlanta, Ga. The signature guest speaker was Jesse Owens. The lineup of award winners was amazing. Hank Aaron was there to receive the Player of the Decade award. State Representative Julian Bond welcomed the honorees and guests to Atlanta. The program is dedicated to, and "salutes the superb young athletes of every nationality, race and creed, who every four years make the Olympic Games, in the struggle for Peace, Honor, and Justice for All Mankind." This program was nicely signed by Jesse Owens, Hank Aaron, and others of the event's award winners, College Player of the Year, Oklahoma's Greg Pruitt, Nebraska's" All American football stars Johnny Rodgers And Jerry Tagge, and Atlanta Braves star Ralph Garr. Established in 1934, by the sports department of the Atlanta Daily World Newspaper, the Wrong Club's mostly black original members, surveyed college teams and athletes for recognition and awards. The club expanded its scope by continuing to recognize college and high school athletes, local community leaders, and national pioneers in sports, as well as social justice. Each year, the Wrong Club selected athletes to attend the annual " Sports Jamboree" weekend. This 8 1/2" X 11" program includes the history and purpose of the Wrong Club, a full page ad for Atlanta's Morehouse College, where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. matriculated, and full pages honoring Jesse Owens, and Hank Aaron. The program shows some handling, and appears to have some compromise on the left (red ) side of the front cover. The signatures of Ralph Garr, Jerry Tagge, and Johnny( Rodgers) are faded. But, the Jesse Owens signature, Hank Aaron, and Greg Pruitt are big, bold and strong (green sharpie). Hopefully, you can see it all in the photos. Buyer to pay safe & secure tracked shipping.
